Layout Design
The Center for Regional Sustainability (CRS) is a branch of San Diego State University dedicated to advance sustainability and environmental justice through regional collaborations in community-based participatory research, stewardship, and outreach to support our region in becoming a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable place to live, work, and play.
In my time at CRS I worked to update various documents and internal design processes, as well as create collateral for the programs under CRS (Sage Project, Brownfields, and Tijuana Historical Archives), and format various long-form text documents.
I was hired as a student assistant between October 2023-August 2024, and hired again as a graphic design consultant in June 2025. Currently, I am under contract here.

Report Formatting
The main bulk of my work during my time at CRS included formatting various reports within InDesign. These documents varied in length, complexity and specifications from the various different authors. Overall, the design of the documents remain within the style guide and template specifications which unifies each different report regardless of the author's directions.
Samples of my formatting work are below.

Report Template
Previous to my time in CRS these reports would take graphic design assistants more than a month to complete due to the original template format having various live elements that required designers to spend a large amount of time editing individually and resulting in various errors in the formatting process. In my time I worked to update the report template file by automating some of the typesetting process using GERP styles, and table of content styles. As well as including various new table styles, image format styles, pull quote styles, and master page styles.

Thanks to this time spent within InDesign I learned to become extremely comfortable with working within the software and maxing out its capabilities. Lastly, for this template I created a new document for designers with tutorials on how to troubleshoot and use the template as many of the designers tasked to help with these reports are students at the university still early in their design career. These tutorials would ensure less time wasted and assurance for CRS supervisors that student assistants had all the tools needed to complete the work, and as a live document it would be easier to quickly document any changes made to the template or add new insights from future designers.
Flyers
Sage Project and Tijuana Historical Archives
As part of my time with CRS I was occasionally tasked with updating or creating flyers for events and general community engagement.
